Grammys 2015: Sam Smith is the biggest winner

Sam Smith had a huge night at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, picking up four awards, three of them in major categories: best new artist, song of the year and record of the year for his Tom Petty-echoing smash hit “Stay With Me.”

At the 2015 Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift presented Sam Smith with

the Best New Artist award - one of his three top wins

Sam Smith wins Best Song of the Year for “Stay With Me.” It’s the third award the singer has won. He beat out Kevin Kadish & Meghan Trainor for “All About That Bass,” Sia Furler & Jesse Shatkin for “Chandelier,” Max Martin, Shellback & Taylor Swift for “Shake It Off,” Andrew Hozier-Byrne for “Take Me To Church.”

Pharrell Williams, Beyonce and Rosanne Cash, daughter of country legend Johnny, won three awards each.

Beck won two, including best album. Other British winners included Clean Bandit with Jess Glynne and Aphex Twin.

Madonna, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney were among those performing at the Los Angeles ceremony.

But the night belonged to Sam Smith, who has cemented his place as one of pop's biggest stars  just nine months after the release of his debut album In the Lonely Hour.
